After Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days: how to keep the halo

Part 1

The halo: what a big event leaves behind

  • What it is. The sales an event leaves behind: a higher sales rank, new customers, and reviews still to come.
  • Why it happens. Amazon search ranks an item by how likely it is to sell, and a week of strong sales is the strongest signal it gets.
  • What it's worth. Prime Day brought 2.1x the usual new-to-brand customers per day, and that cohort spent 1.9x a normal one over the next year.1
  • How long it lasts. No public study measures it. One Teikametrics product held 46.85% above its pre-deal rate for 22 days after a deal.2 Plan for 30 days and measure your own.

Sales rise in the lead-in, spike during the event, then either settle above the old baseline when the halo is kept, or fall below it when stock runs out and ads are cut. Operations: re-plan stock at the new rate

Do this first

  1. Recompute days of cover on every item using daily units from the 7 days after the event.
  2. Check your delivery promise from 3 or 4 ZIP codes in a private window.
  3. Stop or cancel any deal that would stock you out or push delivery past 2 days.
  4. Ship inbound for the next deadline: October 21 for T12.
  • The halo shrinks your cover. 1,500 units lasts 50 days at 30 a day, and 33 days at a halo rate of 45. From October 8, that's a stockout on November 10, before T12 starts.
  • A stockout costs rank. Organic placement takes 6 to 7 days to recover after a stockout of 2 days or more.3
  • Delivery past 2 days means thin stock. A deal sends its heaviest traffic to the offer least able to serve it.
  • Stopping is cheap before the start. A deal cancelled before it starts costs nothing. Once it's live you pay the full fee ($100 plus 1.5% of deal sales, capped at $5,000), so the fee is spent either way.4,5
Keep, cut or stop a deal If cover at the halo rate runs out before the deal ends, stop the deal. If delivery is promised in more than 2 days, stop it or cut it to the regions still in stock. Otherwise keep it. Stock lasts past the deal,at the post-event sales rate? Delivery promisedin 2 days or less? Pricing and deals: protect your T12 deal and its badge

The event that matters most is the next one. After Prime Big Deal Days that's T12, the 12 days from Black Friday Week through Cyber Monday. Amazon hasn't published 2026 dates, and 2025 ran November 20 to December 1,6 so expect about November 19 to 30. Whatever you do to price in October decides whether your T12 deal qualifies, and whether it gets the deal badge.

Do this first

  1. Return to your regular price within 2 to 3 days, and no higher. Stay at the deal price and you lose the T12 badge.
  2. Run no coupons or price cuts from October 20 on, unless you'd run the T12 deal at that price or lower.
  3. Open your submitted T12 deals and check the max deal price Amazon shows against your planned price.
  4. End the sale on your own site, Walmart and every other channel the same day as Amazon.

The deal tenets

These are Seller Central rules for 3P sellers. Vendors (1P) fund deals through Vendor Central, and Amazon sets the price.

  • Beat your own 30-day low. A deal must be at or below the lowest price of the past 30 days, counting coupons and price discounts, and match or beat other reputable retailers.7 For a deal starting November 19, the window opens October 20.
  • The event deal itself is excluded. Amazon says Prime Big Deal Days promotional prices "won't affect the maximum deal price" for Black Friday Week and Cyber Monday.5 A sale you keep running after it ends isn't covered.
  • Clear the minimum discount off the reference price. For Black Friday and Cyber Monday 2025, that was 15% for Best Deals, 20% for Lightning Deals and 15% for Prime Exclusive Discounts, which carry the event badge.8 Amazon's 2026 notice says eligibility is unchanged.5
  • Keep a valid reference price. Every Amazon deal shows a verified reference price.9 Since April 23, 2026, a List Price must be backed by Featured Offer sales or another retailer at that price. Since May 18, Typical Price (the 90-day median) counts your promotional sales too once you're below it for more than 45 of 90 days.10 A long discount lowers the reference, and the deal has to go deeper to show its savings.
  • Plan for 4 stars. Amazon's floor for any promotion is 2.5 stars on at least 5 reviews with no high return rate, and it says some deal types set a higher bar.7 For a badged event deal, plan for 4 stars or better.
Stay at the deal price and you lose the T12 badge A $19.99 item runs a $14.99 Prime Big Deal Days deal. Path A goes back to $19.99 on October 9, then runs a T12 deal at $16.99, 15% off, and gets the badge. Path B stays at $14.99. At T12, $14.99 is just its price, with no discount, so there is no deal and no badge. A badge would need a price below $14.99, more than 25% off $19.99. Path C goes back up to $19.99 for 2 weeks between the events, then down to $14.99 again. Most units still sold at $14.99, so the Typical Price may stay near it and the T12 badge is at risk. PBDD T12 A. Back to $19.99 after the event $19.99 $14.99 PBDD deal $14.99 T12 deal $16.99, 15% off Badged B. Stays at $14.99 after the event $19.99 $14.99 PBDD deal $14.99, and it stays T12 at $14.99 is no discount No badge C. Back up to $19.99 for 2 weeks, then down again $19.99 $14.99 Most units sold at $14.99 2 weeks at $19.99, few units Amazon's reference price may sit near $14.99 Badge at risk Oct 1 Nov 30 B: a badge needs a deal below $14.99, more than 25% off $19.99. C: 2 weeks at full price don't lift the median price customers paid. PBDD is Prime Big Deal Days, October 6 and 7. T12 is Black Friday Week through Cyber Monday.
Example prices on a $19.99 item. The $14.99 Prime Big Deal Days deal itself doesn't count against T12, because Amazon excludes it. Staying at $14.99 afterward does. Typical Price is the median price customers paid over 90 days, so it follows where you sold the most units, and a week or 2 back at full price may not move it.9

Outside prices: 3P and 1P differ

  • 3P: don't overshoot on the way back up. Amazon's Marketplace Fair Pricing Policy covers a price "significantly higher than recent prices offered on or off Amazon," and can cost you the Featured Offer.11,12 Amazon publishes no threshold, so go back to the old price, not above it.
  • 3P: you set the price, and Amazon checks it against other stores. An offer counts as competitive only at or below the Competitive External Price, the lowest price at other major retailers, and Amazon can remove the Featured Offer from one that isn't.12 Pricing Health in Seller Central lists offers that lost it, and those within 5%.
  • 1P: Amazon sets the price. Vendors don't lose the Buy Box this way. Amazon prices the item itself, so a sale left running on your own site or at Walmart tends to pull the Amazon price down with it, and the margin conversation follows.
  • Win back event buyers without a public discount. Brand Tailored Promotions sends an offer to a chosen audience, such as recent customers or cart abandoners.13

Part 4 · Lever 3

Assortment: let the event tell you what to stock

Do this first

  1. Pull Business Reports by child ASIN for event week.
  2. Reorder the variants that sold out first.
  3. List the items that didn't sell even at the deal price, and read their reviews.
  4. Test one bundle of your entry item and the thing people buy next.
  • The first item new buyers chose is your entry product. Lead your remarketing with it.
  • Baskets were small. Prime Day 2026's average order was $47.66, down from $53.34.14 A bundle lifts order value without a discount.

Part 5 · Lever 4

Visibility: spend the rank you earned, and take share

Do this first

  1. Keep ads on for 14 days after the event, and step budgets down, not off.
  2. Remarket shoppers who viewed in the last 7 to 14 days with Sponsored Display.
  3. Raise bids on terms where you now rank 5 to 20, and cut them where you rank top 3.
  4. Check your top 5 competitors daily, and target the pages of any that sold out or priced above you.
  • Don't judge the event for 14 days. Sponsored Products and Brands credit a sale up to 14 days after the click, so event sales post until about October 21.15
  • Remarketing windows. Sponsored Display reaches viewers from the last 7, 14, 30, 60 or 90 days.16 Use 7 to 14 for consumables and 30 or more for considered purchases.17
  • Top 3 organically? Cut the bid. In eBay's field experiments, most ad spend went to buyers who would have purchased anyway.18
Where the ad budget goes, during the event and after During the event most budget goes to broad discovery terms. In the two weeks after, it moves to remarketing shoppers who viewed and didn't buy, to non-brand terms just below page 1, and to competitors who sold out, and cuts terms already ranking top 3 organically. Event week Broad discovery terms Category Brand The 14 days after Remarket viewers Terms ranked 5 to 20 Conquest Discovery smaller total Cut: bids on terms where you now rank top 3 organically. Keep: your brand name only if a competitor is bidding on it. Shares are illustrative. Helium 10 puts the lead-out at about 15% of event-period budget.

Conquesting: take the shoppers competitors can't serve

Your rank, reviews and stock peak after the event, and some competitors' bottom out. About 30% of online shoppers who hit an out-of-stock item buy another brand at the same retailer.19

  • Let the numbers compare. Amazon's ad policy doesn't allow naming a competitor.21 4.6 stars beside their 4.1 does it for you.
  • Bid below your own terms. In Bing experiments, 20 to 47% of conquest clicks came back within 30 seconds, against 7% of a brand's own.22
  • Defend your name if a rival bids on it. Brands that stopped bidding on their own name lost 18 to 42% of those clicks to competitors.23

Part 6 · Lever 5

Ratings: the reviews arrive after the halo

Do this first

  1. Send Request a Review on every event order, 4 to 30 days after delivery.24
  2. Read the first 20 to 30 new reviews and fix the listing they point at.
  3. Enroll variants with fewer than 5 reviews in Vine before T12. It's free for up to 2 units per parent ASIN.25
  • New buyers spot what regulars stopped noticing. Across 7 brands, 40 to 55% of 1-star reviews traced to the listing instead of the product (our research).
