Part 1
Read the total, then the channel that moved it
Do this first
- Check the Total row's change before any channel's.
- Find the biggest number in Adds to growth, up or down. That channel drove the month.
- Copy the scorecard to Slack or email, or copy a link that reopens these numbers.
- The example business grew 4.8% to $83,400 while Amazon fell 5.6%. Shopify's +$4,500 drove the month, at +5.7 points.
- The channels add up to the total. Shopify's +5.7 points, Wholesale's +2.0 and Amazon's -2.9 make the business's +4.8%.
- The marked row is the biggest mover, whichever way it went, so a channel pulling against the month gets named too.

How each column is worked out, and what it leaves out

- Sales only: a channel can grow here and still lose money after fees. Profit by sales channel covers the fees.
- No cause: it doesn't split a change into traffic, conversion and order value, which is where the cause lives. The sales drop check does.
- Month on month misleads in a seasonal category, where December against November mostly measures the calendar. The monthly business review template lays out the full review, same month last year included, and where each number comes from.
