Guide
How do I get more Amazon reviews without breaking Amazon's rules?
Part 1
Click Request a Review on every order from day 5 to day 30
Do this first
- In Seller Central, open an order delivered 5 to 30 days ago and click Request a Review on its Order details page.
- Do the same for every order in that window, once a week, so none ages past day 30.
- Skip a Buyer-Seller Messaging review ask on any order you've requested this way.
- Amazon allows one request per order, 5 to 30 days after delivery. An Amazon staff reply on its Seller Forums states the window.1
- The email is Amazon's own wording. It asks for a product review and seller feedback in one email, translated into the customer's language, and customers can unsubscribe from it.1, 3
- Amazon already sends automated requests for most products, so the button is a second ask on top of Amazon's.3 No Amazon page says what share of requests become reviews.
- Count first. At 4.2 stars and 250 reviews, the 5-star reviews table says 150 new 5-star reviews to reach 4.5. The Star Rating Calculator runs your own numbers.
Part 2
Enroll listings under 30 reviews in Vine, free for up to 2 units
Do this first
- Check you sell on a Professional account and the listing has fewer than 30 reviews, an active FBA offer and a Brand Registry role on its brand.
- In Seller Central, hover over Advertising and select Vine.
- Pick the units from the fee table below and enroll.
| Units per parent product | Enrollment cost |
|---|---|
| Up to 2 | $0 |
| 3 to 10 | $75 |
| 11 to 30 | $200 |
- Who qualifies: a Professional selling account, a Brand Representative or Reseller role on a brand in Brand Registry, fewer than 30 reviews on the detail page, an active FBA listing, an image and a description. Adult, digital and bundled products are out.2, 4
- Billing waits 30 days and the first review. No Vine review within 90 days of enrollment means no charge, and child variations cost nothing extra.2
- Vine Voices get the product free and post their honest opinion, per Amazon,2 so fix what your low reviews name before you enroll.
- 30 units is the ceiling per product.2 The Part 1 listing, at 250 reviews, is past Vine's 30-review limit, so Request a Review carries it. For a new listing that qualifies, 30 units yield at most 30 reviews.
Part 3
Inserts and messages are allowed when they ask neutrally
Do this first
- Cut your insert card to one line that asks for honest feedback.
- Remove stars, gift card images, QR codes to outside sites and any email or phone number.
- Send a Buyer-Seller Messaging review ask only on orders where you didn't click Request a Review.
| What the card or message says | Amazon's ruling | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thank you for your purchase, feel free to share your honest feedback in a review. | Allowed | A neutral ask |
| We're a small family business, so your review would mean a lot to us. | Allowed | Describes the business and asks neutrally |
| Leave a 5-star review and we'll send you a gift card. | Banned | An incentive |
| We'd be pleased if you leave a positive review, with a 5 yellow stars image. | Banned | Steers the rating |
| Unhappy? Email our support team before you review. | Banned | Heads off negative reviews and leaves Amazon's channels |
| Scan here for your warranty, linking to a site that asks for a review. | Banned | Ties a warranty to a review |
- Messaging allows one neutral review ask per order, and only on an order where Request a Review wasn't used.3
- A Buyer-Seller message that only says thank you or asks if the order arrived is banned as unprompted contact, in Amazon's own examples.3
- Every customer service reply stays in Buyer-Seller Messaging, replies to a negative review included. Email, phone, social media and messaging apps are banned, and an insert can't carry contact details.3
- Customer quotes stay out of the listing. Amazon bans reviews and testimonials in titles, bullets, images, descriptions and inserts.3
Part 4
Anything traded for a review can get the account suspended
Do this first
- Check every insert, message template and outside service you pay against the 4 points below.
- Cut any refund or replacement message that mentions the review.
- Report a buyer who threatens a negative review unless refunded through Report Abuse on the account health dashboard.
- Incentives of any kind are banned: money, gift cards, discounts, refunds, replacements and future benefits.3
- So are asks that steer the review: asking for positive reviews only, asking a buyer to change or remove one, even during a return, and asking unhappy buyers to contact you first.3
- Connected reviewers are banned. Family, close friends, employees and anyone with a financial interest in the business can't review your products, or post negative reviews of a rival's.3
- Amazon holds the account responsible for anyone acting for it. Violations by employees, business partners and third-party services can end in suspension or termination.3 Reviews removed for policy reasons rarely come back, per why Amazon reviews go missing.
See what your reviews say, beside your sales
Sentopi's monthly report reads every channel you sell through, beside Amazon's ratings and reviews: what moved across the whole business, why, and what to do first. The first month is free, and you never log in to anything.
